Coleman College's accelerated undergraduate programs provide students with the qualifications necessary to begin a career in information technology. Coleman's courses offer hands-on, practical training, emphasizing concepts and fundamental skills in the student's area of specialization. Small classes give the students close interaction with their instructors and classmates. Coleman College's "major first" approach to education allows students to take the technical courses in their major first, as part of their specialized core program. Students earn a certificate upon completing the core and may then pursue additional required courses toward the associate and bachelor's degrees. These remaining requirements can be completed in the evening while the student is progressing in his or her career, within limitations. Core Program This program is designed to provide students with the technical skills and knowledge to start a career as a PC/Network Support Technician with an emphasis in network administration. The graduate will have the ability to operate, diagnose, analyze, install, repair, administrate and maintain microcomputer operating systems. Additionally, the graduate will be able to build, administrate and implement Novell, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and UNIX operating systems in a local area network environment. The graduate will also be able to use common software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and data communications. Associate of Science Degree This program offers the student the basic technical skills to establish and enhance a career in computer networking. In addition, the student will develop important human relations and communications skills for advancement in the areas of customer service and management. The units earned apply to the Bachelor of Science program within limitations. Bachelor of Science Degree This program is designed to provide the graduate with the educational foundation for management positions in the computer network technology field. The graduate is prepared for leadership responsibilities in the planning, evaluation and supervision of computer service activities. The curriculum includes a sound knowledge of technical skills, concepts of management and human relations, and a study of mathematics and physical sciences. The Bachelor's degree program in Computer Networks is not intended to be preparation for graduate work in engineering or science.
